CHARRED SESAME SHISHITO PEPPERS

Ingredients

1 pound whole shishito peppers

1 tablespoon canola or vegetable oil

½ teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons sesame oil

1 tablespoon soy sauce

2 teaspoons hoisin sauce

2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Instructions

Wash the shishitos under cold water to remove any debris and dry in a clean kitchen towel.

Heat the canola in a large deep cast iron skillet over medium high heat for 2-3 minutes until very hot and almost smoking.  Add the shishitos and cook for 8-10 minutes until the peppers are blistered almost over.  Toss them about once a minute so they get evenly charred on all sides.  Season them with the salt.

While the peppers cook combine the sesame oil, soy sauce, and hoisin in a small bowl and whisk to combine. When the peppers are just about done add the sauce and toss to coat.  Add the sesame seeds and toss again.  Cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute to fully coat.

Serve immediately, but these are good to sit out and are delicious at room temperature also.  The easiest appetizer packed with flavor!  Beware – 1 in 10 shishito peppers are spicy!!
