I was chosen as 1 of 30 bloggers to compete in the Miller’s Sweet and Spicy Banana Pepper Sauce Blogger Recipe Challenge! The challenge is to really think outside of the box and create new recipes highlighting their delicious banana pepper sauces in entrees and appetizers.
In the words of Peter Brady (aka Humphrey Bogart) – “Pork Chops and Applesauce”!! But this ain’t your momma’s applesauce! The Miller’s Sweet and Spicy Banana Pepper Sauce brings your applesauce to new spicy heights and, I promise, you will never want to go back! My family went crazy for this sauce and had the leftovers on pancakes the next morning!! It’s also super easy to make and a great way to use up those slightly bruised apples on your countertop.
Here’s how I made it! Note – you can also scroll to the bottom of this post to skip to the full recipe or click on the photos in this post which will link you to the recipe page as well.
To make the applesauce, combine 3 pounds of chopped, peeled, and cored apples, 1 jar of habanero banana pepper sauce, ⅓ cup of apricot preserves, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1 teaspoon salt, and and ¾ cup of water in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low. Cook until the apples are very soft, about 30-40 minutes.
Remove the cover and mash the apples with a potato masher. Continue to cook for an additional 30-40 minutes, stirring and mashing occasionally, until the sauce is reduced to a thick and chunky consistency (note – if you like a smoother sauce, you can puree it in a blender or food processor).
To make the cutlets, pound each piece of pork with a meat pounder to ½” thickness all over. Season the cutlets on both sides with salt and pepper. Create a breading station by beating 2 eggs in a pie plate or shallow baking dish and placing 2 ½ cups of panko breadcrumbs in another dish.
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Dip each cutlet in the eggs, letting excess drip off, and then press firmly into the panko breadcrumbs on both sides. Working in batches, place the cutlets in the hot oil and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and just cooked through. Place the cooked cutlets on a baking sheet and put them in the oven to keep warm while you prepare the rest.
Top the cutlets with that amazing sweet and spicy applesauce and serve with your favorite sides. DEVOUR!!
